Ingredients

Scale

For the Cupcakes:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup whole milk (or buttermilk for extra moistness)

For the Cinnamon Sugar Swirl:

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For the Cinnamon Glaze:

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 12 teaspoons milk (or heavy cream)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

Preheat and Prep:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners and set aside.

Make the Cupcake Batter:
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

Add the Cinnamon Swirl:
5. In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon for the swirl.
6. Spoon a small amount of batter into each cupcake liner, filling it about halfway. Drizzle a teaspoon of melted butter over the batter, then sprinkle generously with the cinnamon sugar mixture. Top with the remaining batter to fill each liner about ¾ full. Use a toothpick or skewer to gently swirl the cinnamon sugar into the batter.

Bake the Cupcakes:
7. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.

Make the Cream Cheese Frosting:
8. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt, and beat until light and fluffy.

Make the Cinnamon Glaze:
9. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and cinnamon until smooth. Add more milk as needed to achieve a drizzle-consistency.

Decorate and Serve:
10. Pipe or spread the cream cheese frosting onto the cooled cupcakes. Drizzle the cinnamon glaze over the top for a finishing touch.
